The 17th Annual Jazz By The Bay Festival will be held at Oaks-By-the-Bay Park in St. Andrews, Panama City, FL, on Oct. 6th and 7th. The festival will feature ten hours of jazz over two days played by six jazz bands playing a variety of jazz styles.
The festival has been an annual production of the Gulf Jazz Society since its initial staging in 2001. The festival, as usual, is free and open to the public.
Headlining the 2017 festival will be the Jones and Company ensemble, a North Florida group headed by Pianist and Vocalist Cheryl Jones. The group for the last 25-years has been acclaimed for its original approach to jazz, soul, and world music.

Other jazz bands appearing in the scenic waterfront park at the foot of Beck Street in St. Andrews are the Bobby van Duesen Dixieland Band, the George Petropoulos Quintet; Saxophone Colossus; The Sean Dietrich Trio; Victor Payano Latin Ensemble, and the Arnold High School Blue Thunder Jazz Ensemble. Extraordinarily gifted Pianist and Trumpeter, George Petropoulos has been appearing at top venues in Pensacola after building an impressive jazz resume in New York City. Known by some as “Bebopoulos,”. Petropoulos will be accompanied by Pianist Mike Levine, Saxophonist Chuck Schwartz, Bassist Steve Gilmore and Drummer Charles Pagano
Saxaphone Colossus featuring Pensacola reed players Bob Maksymkow and Mike Lyle will open the Friday evening performances. The group will include Pianist Mike Levine, Bassist Steve Gilmore and Drummer Charles Pagano.
Piano marvel Bobby van Deusen, a ragtime and stride specialist from Pensacola will head his own 5-piece Dixieland band in the style of the great traditional jazz bands “We’ll be playing all the good stuff.” says Bobby. Lately, Bobby has been playing regularly with the famous Barbary Coast Jazz Band at venues across the country and at the Sun Coast Jazz Festival in Clearwater. Earlier in his career he played in New Orleans with Pete Fountain, Al Hirt, and The Dukes of Dixieland and the Delta Queen Steamboat Company for 5 years perfecting his dazzling piano technique..
Jazz Saxophonist, Clarinetist and Flautist Victor Payano returns to Jazz By The Bay with its exciting brand of Latin jazz that translates American music into dynamic Latin beats. Mr. Payano, a native of Puerto Rico, has performed at jazz festivals throughout Florida as well as the annual Puerto Rico Heineken Jazz Festival. Payano holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico.
Popular Destin Pianist and Vocalist Sean Dietrich will lead his jazz quartet in a full range of jazz standards with verve and style reminiscent of New Orleans vocalist Harry Connick Jr. His ensemble has appeared at previous Gulf Jazz Society functions, the Jazz By The Bay Festival and music venues throughout the Florida Panhandle, delighting audiences with jazz-inspired piano and vocal work drawing from the collection of great American pop songs
The music begins on Friday, October 6th from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. and continues on Saturday, October 7h from 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Oaks-By-The-Bay Park, St. Andrews, 10th and Beck Avenue.
Visitors should bring lawn chairs for their own comfort. Food and beverage vending (including beer and wine) is available at the festival site.
